Diet after gallbladder surgery

A small but important organ in the digestive system, the gallbladder, sometimes forms stones. In severe cases, its removal, abdominal surgery is required. After cholecystectomy (this is the name of this surgical manipulation) a person no longer has a capacity for bile accumulation and there should be a lot of it in the bile ducts, otherwise it will stagnate.

A diet after gallbladder surgery will help the patient maintain good health. It helps avoid complications and return a person to a full life.

After the operation, it is important to follow the doctor's instructions carefully and follow a specific diet. The basis of the diet menu is only diet products. Failure to adhere to nutrition rules can cost a person his life. Please observe the following guidelines:

  1. Reduce your salt intake.
  2. Limit your intake of fats (lard, breast, roast lamb). Such food is difficult to process in the stomach and puts a lot of strain on the liver.
  3. Drink plenty of water and juice. Herbal teas, fruit and vegetable juices are useful: cabbage, carrot-apple, pumpkin, carrot-celery. Carbonated water, beetroot and diluted factory juice are contraindicated.
  4. Drink only mineral water with your doctor's permission. After six months after cholecystectomy, and if your doctor allows you to use them in your diet, start drinking mineral water or medicinal herbal tea.
  5. Take polyunsaturated fatty acids (Omega 3).
  6. Alcoholic and low-alcohol beverages after gallbladder surgery should be completely excluded forever.
  7. Minimize your intake of high cholesterol foods. The absence of a gallbladder does not preclude the appearance of stones formed by cholesterol.
  8. Spicy and smoked foods are taboo (red and black pepper, bitter spices, vinegar).
  9. Change the way you prepare meals. To protect yourself from gallstone recovery after surgery, cook, bake, steam food.
  10. Eat small. Divide your food intake 5-8 times a day. Drink plenty of water during meals and eat small meals. With frequent bile excretion, stagnation is the least likely.
  11. Well-nourished people whose weight does not meet the norm are advised to eat foods with a minimum of carbohydrates.
  12. The diet after gallbladder surgery should be balanced with enough minerals and vitamins.

What can and must not be eaten after the operation?

For the first 2-3 months after gallbladder surgery, the patient is prescribed a strict diet, which includes a list of acceptable and forbidden foods.
